KATRINA
What do you say after a hurricane like Katrina? It's hard to imagine the devastation caused by a storm of that magnitude. The images coming out of New Orleans are showing damage on the scale of an atomic bomb blast! Our thoughts and prayers are with the people of New Orleans and along the Gulf coast.
By the time Katrina came through the Mid South Monday night, she had been downgraded to a tropical storm. Winds of 50-55 mph were clocked in the Memphis area along with rainfall amounts topping 6 inches.
The drive home after last night's 10pm newscast was interesting at best and challenging at the very least. Our home lost power shortly after 1am. It was tough getting a good night's sleep while wondering if the next gust of wind would bring a tree through our home!
Fortunately, the power clicked on while I was showering and shaving this morning, then it went off for another 5 hours. I went outside and check our backyard rain gauge, which can only hold 6" of water. Well, it was topped out! The total didn't surprise me at all.
Count your blessings, then find a way through your church, Red Cross or other organization to contribute to relief efforts.
